What is the point of Twitter?
Let me start out by saying that I am familiar with Facebook and Myspace, although I do not go to these sites anymore. I am trying to understand why Twitter is used. Could you just send a CC email to friends? Or keep a blog? What purpose does Twitter actually have and how would it help someone in their daily life? I could be wrong, but in my opinion it does seem pointless. Any intelligent insight would be appreciated!

Its a quick way to let your followers; whoever they may be (family, friends, etc) what you're up to without having to take time to sit and write an email or blog and then personalize them or any of that. That's pretty much it.

You COULD indeed keep a blog. But first of all, you'd actually have to have something to say to keep a blog. You can't get away with just "havin a bath" or "goin out" as a blog always needs a title and a body. In a blog, you'd actually have to mention why it could be interesting for us to know why you're having a bath or what you're going to do when you're going out.

Second, the people your blog is meant for would actually have to be intelligent and have the patience to read A WHOLE BLOG. I mean, even if it's only a paragraph! They have to sit down, click the link, and then r-e-a-d.

With twitter however, you can post completely irrelevant messages that noone cares about but everyone reads anyway. It's only 140 characters max, so it doesn't require as much patience as a blog, and because it's Twitter and everyone posts equally irrelevant rubbish, you won't get comments from people asking why you think the readers would be interested in your daily activities. Well, there is a reply function on Twatter, but you've only got 140 characters to reply so people who actually question the usefulness of twitter don't have enough characters to publish their carefully thought about opinions. Because Twitter forces you into using retarded abbreviations.

As you might've read, I'm not a huge fan.
