Can my employers find my pictures on Facebook, even though my profile is set to private?

I recently started a job and heard stories about people whose pictures on Facebook were found by bosses, and they were disciplined as a result (for making the company look bad). My privacy settings are set so that only my friends can see my profile, so is it still possible for employers to see my information?

i dont think so but colleges have special agreements with facebook.
so maybe it's possible but i think it's unlikely.

No they shouldn't be able to see your pics as ur profile is set to private but if any of your friends are friends with them or have a public profile and you are tagged in a photo with them then they can see it but i dont really think they will bother checking through all yours friends pics to find some of you, so dont worry about it. kinda of! if one of your friends tagged you in those pics, or even if someone physically shows your boss! Of course not, if you ain't "friends" with your boss..

yes, be careful. Try to change your name to some version they wouldn't know to search for. Also, makes sure your photo albums are for only your friends. And don't put the company you work for in your profile because they can search for that too.

but nothing is private once it's posted on the internet.
i don't recommend facebook.

They aren't supposed to, but they can tell you have an account. The problem is, your network of people is beyond your control.

A good general rule is: if it's something you don't want seen by someone, don't put it out there - anywhere for anyone. The other thing is - do not underestimate the resourcefulness of a nosy person. A combination of various sources, your name, and some time, and the amount of information that can be obtained on some people would blow your mind.

Don't post any pictures you wouldn't show your mother, and don't post any information you wouldn't share with your worst enemy and you will be fine.

Yes, it is still possible for them to find you. You may want to take any unflattering or bad photos of yourself that you have posted up on your facebook account off there so that if they find your account they are okay and satisfied with it. They do see reason sometimes to fire people over their pages on the internet.
