How do you quote material that is already quoted; in other words, when the source you are using quotes someone?
For MLA how do you do this?

As so-and-so once said, "Blah blah blah blah blah" (author pg#).
You just quote it like you are quoting the original speaker, yet reference the source you found it in. Ads |

In American style, a quotation inside a quotation uses single inverted commas. For instance:
My mother said, "I learned how to use a new website called 'Facebook.' " Note how the original quotation uses DOUBLE inverted commas, and the quote-within-a-quote uses single. British style reverses this usage: Single quote-marks for the first quote, double for the quote inside. |
