How do i stop facebook from spamming me?

now im new to facebook, and i've just started but everytime there is a notification, facebook sends me a mail...now this is irritating coz i have loads of friends and get many notifs, i am being spammed by facebook....how do i stop this onslaught?

you can edit your setting to change which and what notification to send to your email mailbox...
in facebook,go to account which is on your right hand top corner on your 'HOME'
choose account settings
and then notifications

I always create separate email accounts for interactive online sites, so it doesnt overtake my real important email. Just use another e mail account for facebook.
