What is the best way of doing a friendly interrogation?

I have family members I haven't seen in a real long time but I want to make sure they are on the up and up. I have my suspicions that my evil father may have some kind of influence, I want to know the truth. I have used Facebook as a form of communications and have had them call me on a throw away phone so I can pull the plug on all communications if necessary.

This is absolutely beyond me, sorry. I cannot even fathom how to use 'friendly' and 'interrogation' in any logical way in the same sentence. But then, I am a very private person, and I just don't consider an interrogation to be a remotely friendly process.
