What does it mean to subscribe to a channel or video on utube?

Sometimes I see where you can subcribe to a channel or vids on utube. Does this mean every time there is a new one they'll notify me by email? Will I have to pay anything? What does it mean?

No, it just means that if you subscribe to someone, all of their recent/brand new vids, will appear on the front page of your channel. You wont get an email, but it will be on your front page. It's kind of like following someone on twitter, you'll just see their newest vids and support them! And its totally free as well Hope i helped!
