What does # mean on Facebook, Twitter etc?
I alwas see it and I'm confused. Like I see it at the end of statuses like #fuckingannoying and #letsbereal. I also saw it on a Diet Pepsi commercial "I just saw #DavidBeckham!" Wtf is this?!

It's a reference to any idea. Here's an example: #BestAnswer
You can literally write anything from #CharlieSheenIsACrackHead to #CuteBunnies Ads |

on twitter there are these things called trends, and it picks up when it's used, so when you see it on facebook, odds are they're using it with twitter
#Duh (Charlie Sheen started it...I think) |

It's called a hash tag. People use a hash tag next to name or phrase to make it popular. Often you will hear about "trending topics" - if you searched Twitter for David Beckham for example you would find every tweet that has #DavidBeckham in it.
Basically it is just used to represent a popular phrase, person, or place. |
