Some people vote some one in because of party dedication, meaning that senator or member of the house may not have received dedicated party voters votes, etc. Thus, where is the legitimacy when a change of parties occur.

The legitimacy comes when the party leaves the elected official. The Democratic party, as an example, has moved so far to the left, so fast, that moderate Democrats may feel left at the station. Many lifelong party members certainly feel that way right now.

Sorry, I'm 51, and I do not recognise twitter as an actual word.

You are supposed to vote for a candidate because of his views on the issues Not the letter in parentheses after his name. That is only for candidates you have never heard of, and it is also permissible to leave it blank and let the people who Have heard of him decide.

This would be why voting a party line ticket is a stupid (well, let's just say uninformed) way to vote. So many people voted for Obama because he was Black.(I'm not saying that is why he won, but in every man on the street interview, when a reporter would stick a microphone in a black person's face and say "why did you vote for Obama" they would say"aha, um, For a change" obviously caught by surprise and not wanting to seem racist on the six o'clock news) A candidates Race is the only one that is stupider than a candidates party. Well maybe there are two more stupider than party, Sex and Age. Ok One more, Physical appearance! I guarantee that some of Sarah Palin's support is due to the fact that she is easy to look at..

Case in point: Is Joe Lieberman a different man now that he is no longer a Democrat? Is Arlen Sphincter? Believe me, Pennsylvanians did NOT vote for Arlen Sphincter because he was Republican. Now they might toss his but for switching, because he switched to Avoid getting tossed. Which is all they ever do it for, But believe me, Joe Lieberman voted For Obama-care as an independent, and Arlen Sphincter would have still voted for it if he had stayed a republican, which is Why he switched parties!

Arlen Sphincter lost his ranking when he switched. He lost his Leadership when the senate majority changed, Because of his ranking, When he switched, if he were not stripped of his rank, he would have regained his chairmanship of the judiciary committee.

A politician Should loose something for switching, and they do. They Should loose their seniority. They generally loose their jobs when they are up again.Because as I said before, a last ditch effort to Save their job is Usually the motivation. In Joe Lieberman's case, He was booted by the democrat party for his support of the Iraq war., but the people wanted him anyway, he ran as an Independent and won. Arlen Sphincter switched because he knew that he would not make it through the next republican Primary., But in His case, The democrats do not trust him anymore either, so I'm betting he is Done!!

Interesting Question, I hope I helped!
