What does it mean when you add someone to your "close friends list"?

So on Facebook, they keep on suggesting people to be close friends with me. What does it do? Do they know that you added them to the list? Does it give you a notification if they update something? I'm confused.

I have my boyfriend on my 'Close Friends' list. When you add someone on it, it allows you to see anything that that person has commented on and liked, along with giving you a notification every time they update their status. It's kind of stalkerish but I like it.(:

if you select someone in your close friend,you can see all activities of them in your close friend page in middle left
and facebook send you notification about them status
if you want to check someone as his/her comment status likes and etc is best way to do it

Yes it gives you a notification whenever your "Close Friend" adds something or shares something.
