Launch Pidgin.

2
Select "Accounts" and then "Manage Accounts."

3
Click "Add."

4
Select "XMPP" from the "Protocol" drop-down menu.

5
Enter the following Facebook Chat details, leaving all unmentioned fields blank:

Username - your Facebook username

Domain - chat.facebook.com

Password - your Facebook password (optionally check "Save Password" to avoid re-entering your password when launching Pidgin)

6
Select the "Advanced" tab and enter the following connection details and then click "Add":

Require SSL/TLS - enabled

Connect Port - 5222

7
Click "Close" and restart Pidgin. Online Facebook contacts will be listed in the Pidgin interface and you can initiate conversations with those contacts by double-clicking their names.
