How do I stop getting notifications from other people?

I keep on getting these endless notifications from people other than my friends on facebook. It always happens when I comment or like my friends' stuff. I tried to set it to where I can get these only from my friends but could not. Is there any way I can block these notifications from other people (such as my friends' friends)? This is driving me nuts! Please and thank you.

If you go to the top right corner of facebook and click account there will be a drop down menu
in the menu select Account Settings
the third tab will be Notifications
check/uncheck what you want

you can stop getting emails through Account settings than click on notfications if you mean notfications as in the red notifcation on the top of your facebook page you cant stop it
