How do you stop getting friend's status updates on your phone from Facebook?

You can get notifications sent to your phone from Facebook, which is fine for me. But also, you can have your phone notified, for friends that you pick, to get their status updates sent to your phone. There is one person I'd like to stop those from, but I don't know how.
So not stopping notifications in general, but stopping a friend's status updates being sent to me.

go on settings- not on the app, but normally, scroll down and there should be a facebook option- look through there.

You mean as a text right?? If so when you get their status on your phone reply unsubscribe and it will text back saying that you will no longer get their message
