How do you get rid of a facebook account?

Facebook is not what I thought it would be. I can't seem to make the account go away. Can a facebook account be eliminated totally?

You can deactivate it which will wipe it out but you can always go back by logging in so it never goes away for I think about 5 years not sure tho on the time

Click the arrow at the top right corner next to your name and 'home', click account settings, click 'security' on the left side, now on the bottom-ish of the page it should say 'deactivate your account". click that and then bam.

1. go to facebook
2.go to the little arrow next to the home button in the top right corner
3.then go to account settings
4.then click on security
5. then click deactivate facebook
6. follow the on screen instructions and your good to go
you will appear invisible on facebook as if you never have created an account

You can deactivate it as others have said, but you can also permanently delete it. All you had to do was google: how to permanently delete facebook

on like the first section click "See more" in blue. And click on that link.

After that you have 14 days to log in (and reactivate your account) before you account is deleted forever! It works trust me, I have deleted my facebook two times before.
