What is wrong with people my age?
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that most 18-21 year old's these days are self obsessed, materialistic, attention whores? Why does everyone insist on trying so hard to dress 'vintage' and act like sophisticated artists when they really don't have two brain cells to rub together, they just take pictures on instagram and make sculptures out of pipe cleaners? And since when did everyone with a camera become a professional photographer? And since when does it make you a model if you post nudes of yourself on the internet? And since when did you become a musician by throwing some gameboy noises together? I don't mean to sound like such a miserable arsehole but I am just concerned as to why everyone i know is so self conscious about there image? Can someone please give me some idea of what is going on? Its not just a few people it seems like everyone to me. I understand people have different interests and opinions but this is madness to me. I'm not an immature person at all and I'm certainly not one to be a buzz kill. I try to be open minded as i can but I can't help but think what has happened to the world? Why is it so uncool to listen to the music you like to sing along to? why is it uncool to wear clothes that are actually comfortable? Why am i so uncool for not joining twitter?!?!?! I'm finding really hard to make friends and have a social life because i feel like such an outcast. To sum it up I basically want to know is it me or is it the world? It might just be the area i am from and in that case, does anyone know of any nice, quiet areas in the UK i can relocate to? I am sorry for the rant and thank you in advance for those who help Smile

Everyone wants to be like everybody else except for the select few like you. They see what's in and out and they don't want to be looked at funny. Society has honestly become so materialistic for some reason since expensive things mean you're rich and I think that's why. People don't have a clue on what art is and that's why they try and create their own which doesn't come out good 100% of the time but you got to give them an A for effort. Everyone right now wants to be amazing, unique, inspiring and since that's the style, no is really unique except for the real unique people.

Young people your age are just trying to fit in themselves. They are experimenting and exercising their freedom of choice. Most just follow the leader to be cool and try to be accepted by others. After all, we all want to be accepted by our peers.

But, like you say, people tend to go to the extreme these days. Young adults think they know everything and actually believe they are sophisticated. Sculptures out of pipe cleaners? My kids did that at Kiddie Kampus when they were toddlers!!

You just are a no nonsense individual and there is nothing wrong with that. In time your peers will grow up and get out of their artsy fartsy stage with their pretentiousness ideals.

I hate to tell you this, but we thought the same thing about lots of people in our age group when they were 18 to 21 years old even though of course, we were perfect little angels who had all the answers!

Guess what? People in my age group are between 55 and 60, and a lot of us wonder, "What in the hell is WRONG with these baby boomers?"

What you're expressing is common to each and every generation.

LOL i know what you mean, im also from the UK (north Cheshire), i work in manchester, and i see everything you hav described, and although to you and i, it seems madness, to them it may be fun, i just tell myself, that we must accept people for who they want to be, if they wish to wear trousers down to their knees, and listen to AWFUL music, then fine, i wont judge them for it, but i wont not have an opinion either lol, im only 20, and i like nights in watching a film and gardening LOL but hey thats who i am (i also do one or two other things as well LOL like blasting out some kylie minogue while 'singing' along), it doesnt matter how many friends you have, rather the quality, Big Grin im not on twitter either, its so nice to find im not alone! you could say it is caused by everything becoming so much more accessible, and therefore taken for granted, i hope this has helped somewhat, probably hasnt haha
