How Do I convince my mother to let me get a facebook?
I'm fourteen, I think I should be allowed to get one, I just want to connect with my middle school friends, I've sent her an email explaining why I want one, hope she says yes. But in the likely event that she still says no, can someone shine a little light on the subject?

Sure can. She is your parent. Abide by her rules. Only four more years and then you can be free of it. Until then, she rules.

Well I got mine when I was twelve. Just tell her that she can check your profile at any time, tell her your e-mail and password. You can also ask her why you cant have one. Also facebook isn't that amazing anymore they destroyed.

I think you should talk to her directly about it.
Also, just explain to your parents facebook is safe and fun,
and that it is only to stay in touch with your friends, not for anything else.
And, for example, if you meet a friend when you're on vacation, you can stay in touch with them in this way to.

Your mom really cares for you and wants to protect you. If she says no to Facebook, you might try to convince her by letting her know your password and allow her to monitor your use of Facebook. Facebook can be a fun way to contact friends and share photos, but there are a lot of creepy people out there who can hurt you. Make sure you're smart and safe with your profile.

facebook's terms are for users to be aged 13 and over. They don't have parental controls, only privacy settings with which you can control who has access to your profile.

Facebook does have some, very limited protection for under 18s, so if you lie about your age you risk not having these.
You are the right age, so you need to calmly convince your mother that you won't put yourself at risk and won't spend 24/7 on the computer instead of doing your homework. Don't yell, no matter what happens! Lose your temper and you've lost the argument! Every parent wants to protect their child from bullies, fraud, computer viruses and worse; it's only natural. So try to see this from their point of view when you ask!

You are going to have to convince her that you understand why you need to take care on the internet and that talk about what steps you can take to protect yourself and the computers from the stuff parents are frightened about.

Some useful material to share with your mother... they'll show you've done some research! You should watch/read these together:

Good luck :o)

Your mom probably knows what shes talking about. But if you absolutely want one, make sure and tell her that you can change the settings to where no one can add you unless you add them first, and that no one can see your information unless they have your permission. So with the safest setting pretty much the only thing people can see would be your profile picture. Trust me I went through the same thing you are now, and I finally convinced her! Hope I helped!
