Can students be punished for talking about principals on twitter? (state of tx)?
There is a principal at my highschool that goes on twitter and looks for students and reads their twitter posts. Some are punished for things they say about the principals. Is this legal? Faculty aren't allowed to add us on facebook. Wouldn't that apply to twitter, too? I'm just curious.

I know of kids who have been suspended for doing that on Facebook not so sure about twitter but there's not much difference in this case I guess. It is very stupid how they turn a blind eye if they see other cyber bullying but it's harsh punishment is carried out if there is a teacher involved. They need to grow up

well, you dont have to add anyone on twitter to see thier tweets. its a little underhanded to go SEARCHING for that stuff, yes. but, so long as youve posted it, and in your privacy settings its public domain, its not illegal for them to see it
and if the post is in a negative light, it is either slander or defamation, and can be taken to court regarding whether it is or not, so they can actually SUE for that, so long as youve made it public
celebrities have had alot of troble with this by not watching what they post

Only if it a lie that will defame his person
.

Or it is a private part of his life that only he and his doctor knows about
.
Then there my be a law suit for compensation of the person who posted the information that is a lie or personal
.
How would you like the school to know that you have a body part missing or that your mother and father were of the same sex and every one thought they were a man and woman
.
This example may be an extreme but use your own imagination as to what it could consist of
.

Wow. You must go to a really lame school.

But yes school faculty is allowed to read stuff students post on the internet. However, punishing them for saying things about them is a complete violation of the right to freedom of speech and IS NOT allowed. The only way they could punish someone is if what they said was a threat to any faculty member or a threat to the safety of the school or anyone in it.
