How do you get rid of notifications on Facebook?

I joined a group on Facebook and people seem to be posting on there constantly. Every time somebody posts a comment these little brown boxes keep coming up and it's beginning to really bug me. I don't want to leave the group, I just want the notifications to go away.

I went on my settings and the only option I can find is to 'stop getting notifications by email.' That is not what I want, I want to stop getting them on Facebook itself.

Does anybody know how to get rid if it?
