How do you keep your parents from hacking your computer?
My mom can access my password on Facebook, read my messages and then talk to me about my private info. She said she uses something called a cookie to hack my computer what can I do do prevent her from doing this.

1. She is not hacking your computer.
2. Delete the cookie.

Change your password, first, to something that you can remember, but is hard to guess...

Then, change your email password, with the same parameters.

Set your browser to delete cookies upon closing, or to never accept them from sites (Doing this will require you to log-in to all sites every time you visit, and if she does not know your password, whala)

If you don't know how to do this, specify what browser you are using, and I will edit my answer tomorrow morning.

You can't. She owns that computer. It's not yours. Don't even try. The truth is she probably has already installed a detective program, the kind that spouses use to check to see if they are being cheated on and since she did it first theres nothing you can do about it.

Make sure your log out and clear the web browser's cache. Is this a shared computer? Get a job an buy your own or don't use the shared computer for Facebook at all. Make sure you connect to Facebook via https. It's more secure. You'll find the option under account, account settings, security. Make sure secure browsing is enabled.

Make a secure password. Chose one of the four word versions from here.

If your mother has a key logger installed then she'll get your password since everything you type will be saved someplace for her to read later.

yes, the infamous cookies. Cookies track and send/record information usually using IO streams and such. In non-nerd that pretty much means that they record what your doing and she can see everything you type and such. They are some easy ways to fix this, go to your computer options and delete cookies for Facebook (Facebook may be running an anti-cookie delete system so i take no responsibility for you no longer being able to access your account.) If you don't want to risk that you could also install a key-logger or secretive screen recording program to see where she access the cookie. Then go to that place and delete the cookie. If you want to be more secretive about it you could replace the cookie information with blank information (empty .txt document or such) to stop her from seeing anything. Now there is only so much i can do over the internet, if i could have access to your computer i could do so much more. My suggestion is to call the tech support or Geek Squad or someone tell them that you suspect that a cookie was installed on your compute to access your information. If your using the Geek Squad you could brig your laptop or have them come if it's a desktop. Just tell you mom that it's a internal core software problem (that is real Big Grin ) and make sure that the tech support dose NOT tell your mom what their fixing. I know that that was a lot to swallow but i hope that i could help you!
