My parents don't respect my privacy!!?
I'm thirteen and my mom was looking through my web history on my laptop while I was at school, which I'd prefer she didn't do. She looked at all the websites I visit and saw that I had them set to stay logged in, and she read through all my emails and read my fanfics and looked at my twitter and tumblr without asking me! Then she read through some of the stories I have saved on here and confronted me about every single thing I have saved on my laptop. I told her that it kind of annoyed me that she'd do all that and she said that parenting magazines say that it's a good idea to look through your kid's things like that! I have no idea how to tell her to please stop doing that!!

Set a password on your laptop so she can't get into your user.
Delete all your web history.
Don't leave yourself signed in to your websites.
Tell her you don't feel comfortable with her doing that.
Hope this helps.

Why Don't You Put A Password On Your Computer?
Or have A talk with them telling them you need your privacy ?.

Hmm, this usually happens due to the lack of trust between the mom and child. Maybe you did something to make her feel uneasy or make her doubt you. If you didn't do anything at all then you two should have a small and friendly chat about how you don't like what she's doing. Tell her honestly and DON'T lose your temper.
I hope it works out (:

If there is a justifiable concern, parents are right to follow up on things. If you're depressed, suicidal, secretive about who your friends are then this would cause concern. This does NOT sound like one of those cases. Your mom sounds either paranoid or bored. Follow all the other privacy advice by the other folk here.

Somewhere along the line someone misinformed you that 13 year old have privacy rights. You will find that for the next 3-5 years you will not have privacy in anything you do. That is why we have parents, to help us stay in line till we have learned enough to do it for ourselves. When you become a parent you will understand. Till then, thank Mom for caring

Well, I see that a couple of parents have answered your question by saying that kids should not have privacy. I disagree, and I'm a responsible adult.

I think that your mother made a mistake. My advice is to learn how to put a password on your computer so that she can't access it. In case she figures out how to get past the password, always log out of your email. Learn how to lock your fanfic documents/folders with a password. I don't know what kind of computer you have, otherwise I'd tell you. You could post a question here on Yahoo Answers in the computing section if you need help.

I would tell your mother that EVERYONE deserves some privacy. You are growing into an adult and you need space to have your own thoughts. Your mother would (I hope) NOT hide in the bushes to listen in on conversations you have with your friends. So she shouldn't lurk on your computer either.

What your mother should be doing is teaching you how to be an independent, responsible person so that you can take care of yourself. It is a parent's JOB to teach kids how to be responsible. So your mother should be teaching you things like never to post naked photos of yourself online or to friends, to make sure your Facebook privacy settings stop strangers from contacting you, things like that.

Your mother is wrong about parenting magazines. There are all kinds of different opinions on what level of privacy "good" parents allow. I'm a professor. What I see is that kids whose parents DON'T allow privacy and independence usually don't end up being very successful. They don't know how to be responsible and independent. They are often the worst students. And parents who obsess about what their kids are doing online are often not that bright, in my opinion.

Good luck.
