How do I a keep a conversation with a girl that I want to make my gf?

I like this girl yet making conversation is hard as she is very good at make answers that are difficult to play off. When we are face to face we are often with others therefore I keep conversation, but, on Facebook I just can't work it. This makes me nervous if I make her my girlfriend and we just have an awkward pause.

it will get easier if you are together once you just start talking

maybe just talk to her in person instead, people like that better anyway. but if not then just talk talk about what you were talking about in person that day and just carry on that conversation
