Why can't I see messages and friend requests from one particular person on Facebook?

A friend of mine sent me a friend request - I got an email with that information but couldn't see the request when entered facebook. So I asked her to send me a message and then I would add her as a friend and the situation was just the same - I got a notification in email, but when entered facebook - there was no message in the Inbox. That's the second person with whom such a thing happened. How can I see that request or message?

Perhaps her privacy settings are very very restricted. ask her to check and make sure her account permits people to accept her messages and friend requests.
