why does my native american friend do this?
she's navajo and she's an only child.

she always calls people her brother and sister on Facebook. is this a traditional thing or what?

Well, we do call people who are related but not of immediate family (such as members of the same clan) our "cousins" (or "aunts and uncles" if they are older)

VERY close friends might be called "brother" or "sister". Either she has alot of "very close friends" or she is using the term very loosely, (in which case it loses some of it's meaning)


Why don't you ask her?
