Facebook Notifications when other people update their status?

I get facebook notifications when some of my friends update their status, and when they upload new pictures, and all that. i have no wish to get those as notifications.
does anyone know how to change the settings so i can only get notifications about if someone comments on my stuff? i don't want to get random notifications about stuff because it clogs up my notifications.

Go on to the friends page that you no longer wish to receive updates from and on the right side of the screen you will see a button called "subscribed", click it or scroll over it and you will see a list of option of what kind of subscription you want to their profile. If you don't want to be subscribed and get updates every time they post something, you may wish you choose the "unsubscribe" option which is the last one on the list.
