My step-father is a complete jerk, and I cannot stand to be around him. Since my mother started dating him around 10 years ago, he has been very mean to me. A week ago, we got into a huge fight, which was the final straw for me. I cannot live with them anymore, but my mother won't let me go live with my dad. I am 17 years old and cannot deal with this for another year.

Tell your mother how you feel. Keeping your thoughts to yourself is bad. If you tell her about how big of a jerk he is, maybe she'll re-look things.

Tell your father how your stepfather treats you and maybe he can step in legally or by any other means to help you. But if that doesn't work, a year isn't that long and you can go live with your father then.

hey i know its prob really tough to deal with him being hes only ur step dad. but legally ur still under 18 so theres not much you can do but wait it out. if u hate the bastard that much do lil stuff to piss him off like maybe pour flour in his shoes just enough to tik him off...pour soy sauce in his coffee...lmbo. naw just tryna cheer you up....your young before you know it this will a blow pass and youll have your own place and pay ur own bills and buy ur ownfood,clothes,supplies,car,house...doesnt sound to exciting now huh...tellen u use that man for everything he has and save up so when its time for you to go you will be ready...hope this helps a lil.

The same thing happened to me as a child and even a little bit during my teenage years. My mom has terrible taste in men and my sister and I have hated every single one of her boyfriends. Over the years, I learned that the best way to deal with this was to talk to my mom and tell her exactly how I feel about the situation. The way she reacts to what you're telling her totally depends on how you approach her about it. If you come off as rude and unwilling to compromise, it could easily make the situation worse. If you come off as being truthful and honest about your feelings but saying it in a nice way, she will most likely take those feelings into consideration and even try to come up with a way to compromise a better situation with you. Also, if you REALLY want out and cannot talk to your mom about it, you are old enough to be emancipated and you can choose who you want to live with.
