If YOU make a big fuss about this, you end up looking like an insecure boyfriend which tells him that you aren't really all that confident in your relationship with your girlfriend. I'm guessing that's not the kind of message you want to send. Guys make this mistake all the time and they end up shooting themselves in the foot. Remember - one of the biggest things a girl looks for in a guy is CONFIDENCE. If you're a confident guy, this other guy shouldn't phase you - because you know your girlfriend wants you and not him.

Your girlfriend should be the one telling him to back off, not you. This whole idea of being "friends" with exes is overrated and unnecessary. How can you really be just "buds" after dating anyway? I think most people can't stand the idea of someone not liking them which is why they try this whole friendship thing with exes. I'm not saying it never works, but 99% of the time, someone still has feelings so it's a weird friendship at best. She should be ending this, not you.
