Is street photography actually legal? And if someone takes a picture of you in a public place, do I have the right to ask them to delete the picture? And do they have the right to publish my picture without my permission? For example on Facebook, twitter etc?

You have to ask the person first, it's a privacy thing.

Indeed it is. At least, where I live if you get caught for taking pictures of public, you'll get arrested.

No, actually it is not...... But even if it is published, you can't do anythin abt it in social networks like Facebook, etc.. If the photography actually insults u, u can file a legal defamation suit if u want......

I believe if it's not used for commercial purposes, then it is legal. You cannot expect privacy in public domain. Check out this site. I'm no lawyer or anything, so I may be mistaken.

Two part answer:

Not illegal to take pics, not illegal to post them on a site. However, if you feel your privacy has been invaded, are being stalked, harrassed, or your peace has been disturbed, you have every right to seek damages in civil court, but there are no criminal offenses being sited in your question.

Generally speaking people to not have an expectation of privacy in public locations, so you may take images of them. You may make images public in ways that do not break any of their rights. Using it for commercial gain for example would likely violate their right of publicity. Such rights vary a bit from state to state. Depending on what other actions are associated with your picture taking, harassment or stalking laws may apply.
