Can others see if you've added someone as a close friend on facebook?
There's someone I'd like to add as a close friend so I can make sure not to miss any of her updates, but I don't want her or others to know I've added her.

Also, there are several people I'd like to remove as close friends since they've overloaded me with updates, but I don't want to hurt their feelings.

Is the close friend designation anonymous?

No, it doesn't notify others that you have added someone as a close friend and yes, it's anonymous.
