Why would my mother let me take a girl to her wedding?

My mom is getting married soon and she is always asking me if I am going to take a girl to the wedding. She told me that I can take whoever I wanted. I am 16 in hs and a guy. Never had a girlfriend. I am shocked to my core!! Than she looks at my friend list on facebook to see who my female friends are.

I guess so you won't be lonely at her wedding and so you would have someone to talk to. You said that you are 16 and you never had a girlfriend, that's most likely "it" right there.

Maybe there will be dancing and she thinks you need someone to dance with. But it sounds more to me that for some strange reason she thinks it will "look better" if you have a date. Or that she's got this idea in her mind that every adult "needs" to bring a date to a wedding. Kind of like some school dances/proms: everyone is expected to have a date.

Which is baloney. If there's a girl you'd like to ask then well and good, but you don't need a date. There will be lots of family members there so it's not as if you'll get lonely. And in general, being single or dateless is nothing to be ashamed of. Especially at 16!

Well you could ask a girl to come with you, but I think it might be awkward for her if you just started dating and then you ask her to come to a big family celebration. I'm not sure your mother really thought of that aspect. Talk to her again and find out why she wants you to bring a date so badly.
