How did you come out to your family/friends?
I'm thinking about telling my close friends/family members in person and then just coming out to the rest over facebook...

How did you come out?

honestly, my siblings have always guessed. So when i finally told them, they just sort of looked at me and said" Yeah.. we know lesbo " however they were very accepting and joked about it.

My mother refuses to accept it. I've tried telling her many diffrent ways. jokingly, seriously. I've sat her down and spoken to her... Each time she laughs ad brushes it off.

My father would throw me out of the house, im sure. Once when i asked him what he thought about it, he started spewing and screamed at me. So i laughed and said i was joking... I'm not sure what to do about him -_-

but really my sibling are amazing. They accept me, and iom really happy about that ^_^

.In general make as big a deal as possible and drag it out as loooong as possible going into minute detail about each and every instance of your life and how you felt and what was gay or not gay about it. Maybe a flow chart and maybe a power point. Hire trained actors and do a stage version of key points in your life.

I'm sure everyone will be as thrilled as you are to hear your intriguing, totally unique little story.

Mom:
2nd person I came out to after a single friend (for the former I used facebook messaging); Sent several text messages (all of which were in network texts of much more than 160 characters) to her while I was on the tarmac at JFK int'l airport bound for Poland for a Jewish Holocaust Pilgrimage thing a few years back. My thought process was, she would be unable to respond to me because I would be completely out of contact in Poland and she would have to reflect over everything while I was out of reach until I got to Israel (for a further part of the trip) a week later where I would visit for the next five and a half weeks. It was a smart move--I heard she went nuts for that week because she was in disbelief and had so many conflicting emotions then, but started to cool down by the end of the week but definitely wasn't ready to see me until my 5.5 weeks in Israel were up. She actually has thanked me for doing this...

Dad and rest of family:
Posted a long message right here on Yahoo! Answers joking that I wanted to kill myself because I hated my situation not being out to anyone during my senior year, after I came out to my mom that summer. I would give you the link to the question--but it was on another account (that I deleted). My dad noticed my account on Yahoo! Answers one day (I was logged in) and read the question, effectively outing me. The day after, I was called in from class to the Psychologist's office in the middle of the day in school, and from there--I was sent to a mental institution at the decision of my mother and father for the next 10 days. My mother and father told my sister and brother then too.

Friends:
Excluding close friends (who I told in person)...I came out to everyone I knew when I graduated from high school through facebook in a long note.

Since all that is been done, everyone is supportive, especially my mother and fraternal twin brother and friends! My father has some work to do though, just a bit.

http://socyberty.com/gay-lesbians/my-coming-out-story/

I've only just started the process, but you don't need to tell everyone straight away. I mean, if you want, you can just announce it over Facebook. But I don't think that is necessary -- you probably have hundreds of Fb friends who won't even care if your gay or not because, simply, they aren't very close friends. Why make a big deal out of something that doesn't need to be that big?
