Is it illegal to take pictures of someone being arrested?

Without asking? Especially if it was something minor like being evicted? I stalked my step fathers facebook and he was saying the photos are great and talking crap on my mother. Is there anything I can do?
He took the pictures off his property line, on the street. My mother was on the sidewalks

Generally, no, it is not illegal. As long as the photographer is not trespassing etc., he may photograph anything he can see through his camera.
