Which is better: Google Chrome or Opera?
Been fed up with using firefox and wanted to use a better browser. What would you recommend? chrome or opera? I have a pc, and mostly just go on youtube, facebook, ect... nothing too advanced.
haha don't worry, I wasn't planning on using IE. I stopped using it years ago, I don't care if it's been updated; I never liked it.
thanks for the answers so far!

Both are very good.
Though, Chrome is a bit more simple and the fastest. It's also very good with security. Used it and haven't got any fake pop ups yet!

Tuff choice, I prefer Opera (it has a dedicated Facebook Ad blocker!), though Chrome is smaller and uses less resources.

Better than Firefox??? (I dont think thats possible!)

Anyway, Google Chrome would be the way to go. Someone above said IE9, I urge you not to use it as it is not safe, as they said it is. You will probably find chrome faster than IE9, but if Firefox is not fast enough for you, you will most likely find little change between the two browsers, it will most likely be your internet connection.

EDIT:
Kitty, the 'quick dial' ability is nothing special. It is called bookmarks in firefox and favourites in IE, im not sure about chrome but I think it is bookmarks. Saving passwords, thats been around forever.

Get opera! My husband got google chrome thinking it would be better. He's a computer geek. It ended up not letting him go online anymore and he got rid of it. He got soooo mad. Opera is so much better. It has a speed dial when you open it. You can put all the sites you normally visit and you just click on the picture and it goes to the site. Its really easy. You can also save your passwords for different sites you sign into so you dont have to remember them, but I dont think you should save the passwords if you have other people using the computer, visiting your same sites

Chrome has the faster Javascript rendering engine. Chrome is also faster in every benchmark and more secure than almost any other browser currently. It's also very simplistic and easy to use with Google search built right into the URL bar.

please ignore elmo elmo, he's obviously new to the computer field. Chrome is by far the best. it's fastest and no less secure than opera. if you're a security freak, go with firefox. and IE is NOT anywhere near as fast as either of those 3.

I've been using Opera for about nine years and have been very happy with it. Opera is very secure and always plugs its security leaks (see Secunia.com). It's easy to use and very fast as well. It has its limitations like Foxit Reader doesn't work for me at least. There may be more but I keep my browsing very simple. It doesn't have that many extensions because they just started using them a few months ago. Opera updates on a regular basis, not constantly like Firefox or Chrome betas. Firefox, in particular, has hundreds of hands in the cookie jar trying to improve it. I don't understand how a final version can come out and a few days later, a beta with 300 fixes is released. Open source doesn't always mean better. Will Opera ever be as customizable as Firefox? No. But, I believe Opera will stay ahead of Chrome. I don't even use some of Opera's big features because I don't need them. Opera portable is very popular (Opera on the go), as is Opera Mini (for cell phones). Go to Opera.com and check out the features for yourself.

I downloaded Chrome and used it for a while. It's a simple browser, not a lot of bells and whistles. It's fast and already has Adobe Flash built in which is a plus for those who have problems loading newer versions. The knock on Chrome and it's a big one: Google tracks your browsing when using Chrome. The privacy issues have always hounded Google, so naturally when Chrome came out those issues were put in the spotlight. To what extent and just what exactly they track versus what Google already keeps on their servers, I really don't know. I don't want anyone keeping track of where I go, no matter where I go. These privacy issues are why some of the other Chromium browsers have gotten more looks. Especially ChromePlus, Comodo Dragon, and SRWare Iron. But there are other Chromium browsers too like Chromium, Rockmelt (integrated with Facebook/Twitter) and Flock. I will say this, the privacy issues matter to me, but obviously based on how many folks use Chrome, those issues don't seem as important to many, many people. Though Chrome betas are constantly being updated, I've only used the stable versions.

Opera just keeps getting better and better. It has a huge following that keeps getting bigger. Hardware acceleration is next up for Opera. Read the reviews at Softonic.com and Download.cnet.com. Join the club, and let me be the first to say, "Welcome to Opera."
