How in heavens name does Twitter work?

I am a Facebook fanatic simply because everything is so simplified. I decided to check out Twitter and found a couple of my fav celebs and called myself writing them or should I say tweeting them and they skip all over me and reply to the next person.Im confused,are they even seeing my tweets? Why isn't anybody talking to me?????

Twitter is basically a following following thing in order to see each other (user) tweets.
I'm pretty sure the @ADDUSERNAMEHERE is tweeting directly to that person.
Yes, they can see your tweets if you add @THEIRUSERNAMEHERE in your tweet, more likely it's sort of rare that they tweet back to fans.

Do you mean you sent them personal messages? Probably these people don't know you! Or else you have to say something that will provoke them into replying, which could be dodgy! Twitter isn't chat, it's like a page with just the facebook type statuses and links to sites posted on it. Some professionals will allow a lot of people to follow them, but they can only see the posts of those whom they grant permission to post on their feeds, or their closer friends.

Twitter makes talking to celebrities and keeping up with them much easier than doing so on facebook because it's more direct and that is the original purpose. You follow them but they don't follow you. And lots of people tweet celebrities all the time on twitter. But they hardly ever reply to people. If they replied to everyone who tweeted them it would take hours and no one would follow them because their tweets would only be replies. In fact people like lil wayne hire people to tweet for them. That's why their tweets are more like life quotes sometimes.
