Do celebrities on twitter have to follow you back in order to receive replies?

No only if you want to send a direct message to them.But to receive reply to tweets no they don't have to.They will get them as long as you use their username in the tweet

Celebrities do not have to follow you back in order to see your tweets that you send them. If you mention their correct user name in your tweet a long with the @ before their name your tweet should be sent to them. If you want to see if your tweet does get sent to that certain celebrity you should tweet a celebrity on Twitter, go to the "Search..." box in top right corner typing in that celebrities name with "@" in front of their name. Look under "Tweets" instead of "People" and it should show that celebrities mentions where your tweet would be. There are some celebrities that do notice their fans. The celebrities that do notice their fans have a hard time noticing them all at once especially if they have a large fan base. Most celebrities don't notice you right away, it does take some time.
