How do you know if you've got a message on twitter?

I'm fairly new to twitter, and i was wondering how you know when you have received a message. not direct messages, but ones that start with @ then the person's name?

It'll tell you. You should also get an e-mail to notify you.

Sign in to it.

You should see it in the stream, if not you can check by clicking your @name under the home tab on the right hand side.

On your twitter settings you can have twitter send you an email or a text message to your phone when ever some one twitters you.
