How do you @reply on Twitter?

Hello. I'm new to Twitter, and really need a way to send an @reply? If you need any more info, I am trying to send an @reply to Robert Pattinson and I don't see how you can send a Direct Message to him so I need help? Thanks!

If you hover on a tweet, it shows an arrow and a star off to the right.
Clicking the arrow will set you up to reply to that tweet.

so Robert Pattinson would be

After the name press space and type the message

@robertpattinson hello robert how are you?
