How would winning the lottery affect a child support order?
I have heard many different things on this subject but I would like to know if a lottery win would affect child support? If the non custodial parent was to win since winning the lottery isn't technically considered income?

It is considered income - you pay income tax. With a big win the ex would probably take you to court to request a trust account to cover future child support payments.

As this appears to be a legal question and not so much a question about gambling, you might get better answers posting it in the Law and Ethics section of the Politics and Government category.

I think it would become an issue if the other party decides to make it one. Each state has different laws, so no one, not even a legal expert, would be able to give you a good answer without knowing where you live.

That depends on the state. In Massachusetts, everything short of change back on a dollar counts, and they are working on that. So does the income of a second spouse.

For 22 years, I have volunteered my time working with divorced/single fathers dealing in family law issues, such as child support, teaching them about what the states are not telling support obligors.
