Is there a site or app to follow people on twitter but reduce the number of messages you see from them?

I want something that will allow me to eliminate or reduce the number of tweets from some people I follow on Twitter. Why? People are more likely to follow you if you follow them right!? So because honestly I am only following some people because I want to increase my followers and not necessarily since I care to hear what they have to say.

Suggestions?

* Please don't respond to unfollow people...that doesn't help.

I am afraid you can only favorite tweeets but that is not what you are looking for , if you are following you are following there is no way unless you dont , i use tweetie on my ipod sorry
