Is your school aloud to close your facebook account?
Recently my school had an assembly informing us that a few students have made hate groups about teachers on facebook and that they have been forcing the students that created the groups to close their accounts. Are they aloud to do this?

You have the right to have a facebook. As long as you're 13 years old or more, you are allowed to have a facebook.

However, if you do something against Facebook policy, facebook itself can remove your account/ban you.
Such as:
(from the statement of rights)
#6 You will not bully, intimidate, or harass any user.
#7 You will not post content that is hateful, threatening, pornographic, or that contains nudity or graphic or gratuitous violence.

"We can remove any content or information you post on Facebook if we believe that it violates this Statement. "

"If you violate the letter or spirit of this Statement, or otherwise create possible legal exposure for us, we can stop providing all or part of Facebook to you."

Your parents/teachers etc. have no legal control over your facebook page. They can request to have the GROUP deleted if it goes against facebook rules, but they cannot close your account themselves. And facebook will not delete your account because your teachers ask them to. Unless, again, you have violated facebook policy.

Here are a couples links you can check out.
Facebook Statement of Rights. http://www.facebook.com/terms.php?ref=pf
Facebook Privacy Policy http://www.facebook.com/terms.php?ref=pf#/policy.php

no that would be violating your facebook rights. like, they cant delete it if theres nothing bad on it. all they can do is search your name and look at your profile. and they cant do that if your profile is private. so no worries, they cant do it.

Well, technically yes. If they are hate groups about teachers they may find it threatening and slightly dangerous. You know how you are not allowed to bring lighters and pocket knives to school but you are allowed to have them in public? Its like that. Even thought you may not be planning on using that knife, it can still be dangerous and they want nothing to do with it. In a nutshell, school differs from state law.

If your under 18 the teachers can have your parents delete your profile. The school itself can't delete it but they can suspend you among other things if you don't.

Your school doesn't have any legal action that can deactivate your Facebook neither force you to do that specially if you live in a democratic country because you are free to hate anyone and join any group!
