Basically twitter is just a social network where you post things on your mind.
And then you should try to find people by typing their names in the "search" and follow them. They may even follow you back. As such, you would be able to see what they are typing (or whats on their mind) sometimes you can have a small mini chat on twitter!
Twitter is quite okay once you get the hang of it!

It's a bit like facebook, but more focused on topics, and people you might be interested in through their interest in the same topics, rather than existing friendships.

Anyone interested in a topic can monitor discussions about that topic, even if it's not their friends saying it. It's kind of like facebook with automatic groups -- groups that form around any topic you discuss, and groups that you join just by monitoring the topic.

Also, there are no annoying privacy invasions (mostly because you know everything is public from the start), and there are no games/quizzes/etc. You can send links to games/quizzes on other sites, of course, but they should be marked with a "hashtag" (topic) like #games, so only people interested are bothered with it.

More importantly: you can have a great idea, and it could spread around the world like wildfire with twitter. On facebook, at least one of your friends would need to be interested, and at least one of their friends would need to be interested, etc.

you dont want to like twitter, it is the dumbest site ever created.

heres an example of the average tweet:
wow sitting on the toilet taking a real big poo and tweeting on twitter about it

second tweet:
hey this football game is great, been scratching my nuts for 10 mins straight now.

etc...
