That means he terminated his contract that could have extended through the year 2010-2011. That means he is an unrestricted free agent which means he can sign anywhere. But that doesn't mean he won't be a Celtic anymore as he can easily just sign a new contract, which I expect him to do.

opt means option.
over all, Paul Pierce have the option to be out of his
contract, he can either extend his contract or sign
another one with a different team.
