How do I stop notifications on Facebook from applications I don't use?

I keep getting notifications that say things like "___ has taken the quiz ______ click here to take it!" Even when the friend is not inviting me to take it I'm getting notifications, and I haven't even used these applications before when I get these notifications. I know how to go edit and uncheck these applications, but is there a way to stop them from coming in my notifications before I'm notified? Because I'm not approving these and it's getting REALLY annoying to have to go back and uncheck applications every day.

With new applications on FB you will always get the default settings so notifications on or off etc, you will always have to turn them off in the settings. Its a pain but if you dont install the apps then you wont need to worry hehe!

When you are looking at the post, in the top right hand corner of the post there is a hidden button but when you put your mouse over it the word 'Hide' appears. Click on that and pick whether you want to hide that person's feeds or just the feeds from the application!

Go to settings and then notifications settings. Remove the tick mark from where you don't wanna receive notification next time.
