What can we, as parents, do if we catch a mean note being sent to our daughter on Facebook?

A middle-school student, NOT a friend to our daughter, wrote her on FB and said CRUEL things to her. At this point, she does not know, but we don't want to erase it, either. (I found out by accident, b/c she left her FB account on, and I thought at first it was mine.)
Can something be done legally? They're out of school for two weeks, and I don't want to wait that long.

Print out the msg and bring it to the dean. There's nothing law enforcement officials can do unless the kid was threatening your daughter with death. The dean of your child's school, however, can discipline that kid.

you already stated that you came in on it accidentally so you open with your daughter that way
and with a sense of the lightness in sense of humor
and I also would definitely take it to her school. I would not ask her opinion on whether not she wanted me to take it to the school. however if and only if she put up a hissy fit, in that instance I would respect her wishes and not take it to the school but I would make a note of it in my own personal records and so forth( as to who what when what time the stuff any mother for get overtime but that you may find you want those details sometime in the future.

so now your by your daughter side giving her the proper attitude to take for this like man this is this person it's not you and you know when she's boosted up inside, then you can deal with the issue of how to really stop the other girl, if your daughter feels equal to that task.
