You don't get the same interactions. In normal day to day interactions of a relationship, theres eye contact, touching, smells and sounds that all stimulate the brain and reinforces (or sever, depending on how the person sees his family) the bonds of a family. Using the internet puts a distance to it, and for some people (like me), it is awkward, but there is a sense of refreshment to see and or speak to a family member on a live webcam/tele chat. If instant messaging is involved, typing instead of speaking might allow some witty dialog to be "said." As for media like Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking sites, there are the sharing of pictures part, and the daily thoughts of people, that might or might not be accepted. For example, many kids would refuse to add their parents. Internet social networking media allows parents to peer into their children's world, but when their children becomes teenagers, the teens might feel a bit alienated. Teenagers want privacy from their parents. They want to go out into the world and show that they can be their own, and they do not want parental meddling. So, the internet can be a powerful tool that can bring family members far away from each other together, or create awkwardness if the family is already physically together in a location.

Its kind of like a friend that comes between you and everyone that you
love and that loves you. Precious time that's no longer spent with loved ones.

Families used to spend time together by going to the park, playing a board game, playing a sport, or other such activities. The most common family time now spent- at the tv. People don't interact at a tv. they just sit together. In other activities they could build relationships

I have read your other answers, and agree it can cause some problems with close family members. On the positive side, It can help keep relatives who live far apart keep in touch on a regular basis. With all the new concepts, you can actually see your loved ones, or see a new baby, etc. without having to travel a great distance.
