I would try all the major networking sites, such as Myspace, Facebook, Wireclub, Twitter. If you can't find him there, try the yellow pages, or simply just try googling him. If you know where he lives, try searching on the interent for his phone number. I recently discovered my biological father, and I too, did not have the money to use sites that make you pay. Good Luck!

I just found my father after not seeing him since infancy.

Parents divorced, mother refused to talk about him for years.
Recently for some reason she said she heard he settled in San Fran.
Searched for him through Intelius-his name, age (7 years older than my mother) and city of residence came up-Berkeley. I was stunned. Other info (house value, etc.) I'd have to pay for. What I got was enough for me to pursue.

With that free info, I looked him up in the White Pages of Berkeley-got a hit. Called, told him information I knew he'd be familiar with (didn't want him to think it was a crank call), i.e. his middle name-his initial came up-my mother's name, my birthdate, and the rest is history. He's been searching for me for years as well, but a PI/pay site would have been too expensive.

It was an emotional reunion. I now have closure. I hope you'll find him, and have closure also.

Good luck
