I am trying to find my Great Grandfather. How is the best way to go about it?

My Grandfather was Adopted and never knew about it, It wasn't until after he died 5 years ago that the rest of his family I included found out.
If anyone out there has been in almost the same predicament as this and have searched for there true relatives I would very much appreciate your advice.
My Grandfathers biological mother died shortly after he did and so we have no one to give us any clues right now.
