It's an ex-girlfriend kind of question. No, I'm not giving out details of my personal life. I am single and happy.

It's possible because Facebook friends are just that. Quite possibly this person has no real-world friends. It also could be a mental condition, such as depression, that is causing this person to just feel lonely. I would advise the person to seek medical help from a doctor or psychologist.

Um, you could be in a room full of live people and still be lonely. It all just depends on how you take charge of the situation. But to answer your question: yes.
