Is it illegal to joke about watching porn on the internet?
My friend's brother texted me and was joking about my friend watching porn in the other room, so i went on facebook not long after and jokingly worte "your bro just txted me. he says you're watching porn? XD". my friend thought it was funny, but his stepdad got angry and said it was "illegal and wrong" to talk about watching porn on the internet. Is it?

There's nothing illegal to talk about porn, but if minors are involved, the situation becomes hazy.

Yes, it is. Porn is a serious matter, nothing to joke about. Except Clown Porn. That's pretty funny. But the rest of it is not to be taken lightly.

It's not illegal, but it could come back to bite him because potential employers/colleges could see that and it would keep him from getting a job/going to college.
But I supsect stepdad does watch porn, maybe even kiddie porn, and is afraid he will be caught. Otherwise, I don't know why he he would react that strongly. If it's not illegal to watch porn, why would it be illegal to talk about it? Free speech and all. (Assuming you are in the US). Now if the porn involves minors, that's a different thing. |

However - you're probably a child/teen and porn/sex/etc is way too touchy to talk about publicly. Even more so is the brother is a young adult. Its not illegal and probably not 'wrong' since it was a harmless joke and im sure she wasnt watching porn but gawd forbid her great aunt sally might be appalled by that comment on your friends fb and cause a stir |

Not in the US. You can watch porn and talk about watching porn all you want. It's called Freedom of Speech.
