I think it's definitely increased my interactions with others. I now talk with cousins and relatives that I never talked to before. Now, when we meet at gatherings, I don't feel like all of my cousins are strangers, I know more about them and have more to talk with them about. Not to mention, I comment on their status updates and pictures all the time, so you feel like you already have a head start on getting to know them.

I got them beat though, I have 12 accounts that I use mostly to play games but have created fake profiles for all of them and keep them in "active" status. I tell ppl to do this too, so some number of people are also creating fake accounts in large numbers. Thus the marketers are foiled into statistics completely devoid of any value.
