How did a random person in a chatroom find all that information about Amanda Todd?
She must've at least told them her first and last name. How else would they be able to track her down as well as her friends and family?

she said that she didn't know how he found her on facebook. to be honest, her chat name probably gave it away, even if it had nothing to do with her a name, a simple google search of the screename would probably do the trick. Some hackers can even track the IP addresses of the computer. then, they see what name the internet is under & its all downhill from there.

google "spokeo" and then click on the link. thats a search engine that can track you and anyone else. type in your name, and your relatives, your address, your facebook, myspace accounts etc. will be posted.

that person though found all of her friends online & made a fake facebook page.

words from her mother: “The Internet stalker she flashed kept stalking her. Every time she moved schools he would go undercover and become a Facebook friend. What the guy did was he went online to the kids who went to (the new school) and said that he was going to be a new student — that he was starting school the following week and that he wanted some friends and could they friend him on Facebook. He eventually gathered people’s names and sent Amanda’s video to her new school.”

I guess there are many ways to track some randoms down you met online in this day and age.

for example, i heard this story where a teen girl got on cam on a chat site and met a random guy there.
they had a short video chat and she logged off. ( just a normal convo and she didn't flash)
a few days later, he showed up at her front door and she got all freaked out.
It turned out that he saw a trophy in the far back of her room and got the name of her school.
So basically he got all the info's about her from there and instantly tracked her down in real life with that little clue.

or maybe Amanda casually answered questions he asked and didn't even think it's dangerous.
let's say someone asks you if you drive to school or take a school bus and how long it takes.
you think this question is no biggie but actually if you answer, you will give him a very small yet very important hint about where you live.
so maybe amanda's blackmailer collected the hints from her a little by little during the conversation.
or maybe he got her IP address and took a screen shot of her face and did some search on google.

She gave away some personal info online, herself. Be it through chat sites, blogs, social network sites, etc. What can you expect? She's a kid. Kids feel more comfortable sharing personal info with someone they're comfortable with, and anyone can be that someone online.

User name, Google Image search since he had a picture of her, pipl.com will track people's information and if you pay for a subscription you get even more information. It's really scary, but it's easy to find people online if they have any information.

you probably already have your answer since there are comments with full of information
I can confirm you the guy who posted the pics is tracked down by anonymous and aressted

"Internet hacking and activist group Anonymous has identified a 32-year-old man as Todd's alleged blackmailer and main tormentor. The group published the Vancouver-area man's name and address on the Internet. The man has since received online threats of vigilante justice."
