Facebook members who wish to connect with friends and share content can do so with little to no privacy restrictions, or with the use of extremely restricted privacy settings. While some users prefer to safeguard the privacy of their content, others wish to expose content very liberally. If you wish to share content freely with many friends, but place restrictions on an individual basis, you can use the Facebook "Block" feature. While blocking someone will restrict the visibility of most of your content, it will not prevent that user from seeing every single Facebook action you take.

What Is Blocking?
Blocking is a Facebook feature that prevents other users from viewing your profile and personal information. When you block someone, you are no longer connected to that person, and all direct interaction is prevented. They do not appear in your friend list, and you do not appear in theirs. You lose the ability to view their profile and neither of you appear in search results initiated by the other. Blocking is mutual; only one party must initiate the block and both parties are affected. When you initiate a block, it remains confidential. Blocked users do not receive notification of the block. The friendship simply disappears.

Will Any Content Remain Visible?
While blocking does restrict the visibility of the majority of your content, it may not prevent all Facebook communications. When you block a user, they will not be able to see any of your Wall posts, or any comments you leave on the Walls of friends you still share. The user will also be prevented from seeing your membership in groups to which you both belong. The user will have the ability to see comments posted by you on mutual friends' photos. This is due to technical reasons. Any such comments appear in black text, without a profile picture or link to your page. Since third-party applications are not run by Facebook, your posts may be visible to blocked users on apps you both use. Content posted prior to the block, including messages, Wall posts and photo comments, will be visible, but with no links to your current profile. The blocked user will have the option to remove or delete messages and Wall posts, if desired.

How to Block Someone
Sign into your Facebook account using your email address and password. Click the "Privacy Settings" option from the drop-down menu under the "Account" tab in the upper-right corner of any page. Scroll down to the "Block Lists" section and click the "Edit Your Lists" link. Type the name or email address of the user and click "Block." Choose the user from the list that appears in the resulting box.

How To Remove A Block
Sign into your Facebook account using your email address and password. Click the "Privacy Settings" option from the drop-down menu under the "Account" tab in the upper-right corner of any page. Scroll down to the "Block Lists" section and click the "Edit Your Lists" link. Scroll to the name of the person you wish to unblock. Click the "Unblock" option next to their name to remove the block. This action does not reinstate friend status. You need to request that user as a friend and wait for confirmation. Enter the name of the user in the search box at the top of any page. Click the user's name from the list that appears in the resulting box. Click the "Add Friend" button located next to the name on the resulting profile page.
